Edmumd’s InsideLine.com brings word that a new diesel sedan will be coming across the pond from Mother Deutschland. According to their sources (which I hope isn’t a rumor inspired by a slow news day), BMW confirms that a 5-series sedan will grace US showrooms soon. The last time we heard this, it was 2007 or so, and BMW never followed through. Which isn’t a surprise seeing as that was the last gasp of the decade of excess. A diesel wouldn’t have been as popular as a new SUV.
Upon reading this, I started hoping that it would be the 5-Series Touring diesel. Then I realized that wagons aren’t the first thing on the minds of US consumers. Then, I thought of any number of 5-series diesels that are popular in Europe/UK. BMWCoop.com thinks that the 535d will be the “lucky entrant.” The 535d comes with a 3.0 liter diesel generating 245 hp and 398 lb.-ft of torque.
As we do here at HECN, when we get good news, we get video as well. From a Top Gear road test where they get it up to 155mph! Enjoy….
